Member Profile: Carrie Kentch, Local Sales Manager - Custom Publishing & Events - Omaha World-Herald

1. How long have you been an AAF Omaha member?
I don't really know, on and off for at least 10 years. This is my second tour with the board and I'm glad to be back.

2. What is the best benefit of being a member of AAF Omaha?
My 2 favorite: Networking - I've made some great friends and fantastic contacts. Education - I've learned a lot about our industry and our market.

3. What makes the field of advertising so awesome?
I am still in it because I love to help businesses be more successful. I'm sure that sounds like an altruistic line of *&^@, but it really is the truth.

4. What's the best piece of advice you have ever received?
Just breathe, all is well.

5. What is the best vacation you have ever had?
A giant farmhouse in Tuscany (Italy), a gracious inn keeper down the road who would keep our wine supplied if we didn't feel like venturing down the mountain in the middle of the night, my best friends and some newcomers, the finest food the world has to offer, the most beautiful art, architechture and views and a hedgehog rescue mission.

6. If you could have a super power, what would it be and why?
The power to clone myself. I'd love to be able to get more done and have more fun.

7. Who is your favorite author and/or book?
Toni Morrison - The Bluest Eye is probably my favorite. The language and words she puts together are absolutely artful and captivating, but she likes to challenge her readers a bit and I love that.

8. What would you say has been your greatest accomplishment to date?
My most awesome children. My oldest was recently offered full-rides to several schools and chose to go 15 hours away to small school in Mississippi. My youngest is a sophmore and well on her way to earning her college education as well. They are funny, bright, kind, generous and absolutely the most impressive thing I've ever done.

9. To you, life is like a (fill in the blank)
Ferris wheel. Sometimes you're up and the view is spectacular, the birds are singing and the air is fresh. Sometimes you're down and you're looking at a carnie's crack peeking out over his dirty jeans, listening to a fighting and sucking in diesel exhaust. Either way, it likely won't last long and there's always some fun to be had.

10. Chocolate or Vanilla?
That's like Sohpie's Choice - I can't possibly abandon one for the other.

Building a Strong Digital Media Foundation

Presented by: Luke Andros
When:
Tuesday, September, 2011
11:30 Networking - 12 Noon Luncheon

Where: Regency Park Lodge 909 S. 107th Avenue Omaha, NE 68144

Cost: AAF Omaha Members $25, General Public $30

Pulling the trigger on a digital campaign without a solid foundation is a recipe for failure. Prior to considering what new media channels work for a client, it's important to analyze the Digital Media Marketing Pyramid and make adjustments before layering digital media strategy on top of the existing foundation.

Luke breaks down the Digital Media Marketing Pyramid (from bottom up) to show audiences:

1. Why you need a "sticky" website to capture customers and which elements must be included for digital media campaigns to work
2. When and where social media pages and outreach come into play and how to best use them
3. Why owning a presence in a local market area using online profiles and listings is the key to a top search engine ranking
4. How to optimize a website and online profiles (SEO)
5. Tapping into the retargeting goldmine with a search and display mix
6. Creating an effective display campaign (banners, video, social media and more)

Privacy Policies

If you have a Web site or advertise on the Internet, you should take time to read this information from the American Advertising Federation (AAF). It will help you cement your relationship with customers and reassure visitors. It may save you tremendous expense and aggravation in the long run.

The government wants businesses to adhere to privacy policies designed to give consumers greater say in the use of their personal information. Currently, the focus is on the largest business sites, but soon regulators will turn their attention to the thousands of small agencies, advertisers, media and small businesses that populate the Internet. In other words, AAF members.

If you don't have a privacy policy now, you will need one. But don't grimace - AAF has done most of the hard work for you.

AAF has developed simplified policies for several types of businesses, including agencies, media companies, local ad clubs and ad feds, consumer product companies, retailers, and service providers. These policies are streamlined versions of guidelines AAF has developed with other members of the Online Privacy Alliance.

To read more visit www.aaf.org.

If you have a specific question regarding a legislative matter or a specific topic you would like more information on, AAF Omaha members can email Gil Cohen at gil@omahapublications.com.  Gil will research your legislative questions and write about them in upcoming AdMuse issues.

Burke joined AP in 2008 as an account coordinator and has worked with a broad range of the firm's clients. As account executive, Burke's role will include planning and managing client initiatives and relationships. He will focus on AP's financial, healthcare and food practices.

A native of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Burke graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with majors in marketing and management.

Deborah Ahl, AP's vice president of client service, said, "Pat has consistently demonstrated outstanding attention and responsiveness to our clients challenges and opportunities. He is strategic and adds value for our clients and our account service team."

Renze Makes a Splash at Children's Hospital and Medical Center

Continuing with Children's Radiology Department's aquarium theme, Renze designed and applied vinyl graphics of sea life on two MRI machines, a CAT Scan machine, control board cabinets and a waiting room wall.

The new look of the radiology department was designed to create a more comforting and kid-friendly environment.

"The kids that come into Children's Radiology department are very intrigued by the fish mural on the wall. It makes them forget why they are at the hospital. We have also seen a reduction in the number of children that need to be sedated to have a CT scan. The kids are able to focus on the pictures covering the machine to help them get through the study. The work that your team has done for Children's truly makes a difference for the kids that we treat everyday!" said Nicole Hardin, Radiology Manager, Children's Hospital & Medical Center.

Swanson Russell's Le Promoted to VP, Manager of Interactive Services

Le was named manager of interactive services in 2010. With his promotion to vice president, Le becomes an officer of Swanson Russell. Under his direction, the interactive department has continued its rapid growth and now employs more than 20 people.

"Johnny's vast knowledge of digital technology and excellent leadership skills have helped make our interactive department one of the best in the business," said Dave Hansen, partner/CEO of Swanson Russell. "In addition, Johnny's creative and collaborative style have worked to make digital experiences an effective component of communications for many of our clients."

Le began his career with Swanson Russell in 2001 as a web designer. He was later promoted to interactive art director and interactive creative manager. In his current role, Le leads the interactive department to combine user experience strategy, technology and creativity in building real digital experiences, including websites, digital advertising, and other digital communications. He also works closely with account team members on developing interactive marketing recommendations for clients.

Le oversees many accounts but works mostly with outdoor recreation clients including SIG SAUER, Minn Kota and Leupold. A Wilber, Neb., native, Le earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in graphic design and drawing from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Founded in 1962, Swanson Russell is Nebraska's largest marketing communications firm, with offices in Lincoln and Omaha. In addition to working with local and regional clients, the full-service agency is nationally recognized for expertise in agriculture, healthcare, outdoor recreation and the green industry. For more information about Swanson Russell's "Real Connection" approach to advertising, public relations, interactive and branding services, visit www.swansonrussell.com.
