AAF Member Profile: Jaylene Eilenstine, Director of Marketing, All Makes Office Equipment

1. How long have you been an AAF Omaha member?
I have been an AAF Omaha member for over five years and have been a part of the Meet The Pro’s committee three times. I am currently a Committee Board Member for Special Events.

2. What is the best benefit of being a member of AAF Omaha?
Being able to network with creative/crazy people. There are so many talented agencies and individuals involved in AAF Omaha; just being able to network and see the level of work everyone produces for AAF Omaha is very impressive, and quite amusing.

3. What makes the field of advertising so intriguing?
Catchy slogans, creative layouts, clever campaigns, media buys, endorsements, every changing technology . . . just a few of my favorite things.

4. What is your favorite Super Bowl commercial of all time?
Definitely the Snickers commercial featuring Betty White that debuted during last year’s Super Bowl. The 89 year-old Betty White dispelled the “old-age” stereotype and was part of one of the best Super Bowl commercials of all time.

5. What’s the best piece of advice or lesson you have ever received?
Never eat yellow snow! No really- Love many, trust a few, always paddle your own canoe!

6. Who is your favorite author and/or book?
The Secret – you know it’s worth reading if Oprah devotes two of her shows to the philosophy behind the book.

7. What would you say has been your greatest accomplishment to date?
Personally - Waking up every morning and loving what I do for a living and coming home to a wonderful family. Professionally – Developing a public relations campaign that brought more than a million hits to the allmakes.com website and was mentioned in the media 24 times.

8. To you, life is like a ______________________
“Life is like a mirror, if you frown at it, it frowns back. If you smile, it returns the greeting.”

9. Early riser or night owl?
Night owl, early risers scare me!

What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas

Tuesday, October 18
Regency Lodge
11:30 – Networking
Noon – Presentation

Randy Snow, Vice President and Creative Director for R&R Partners, presents the strategy and inspiration behind the campaign turned modern-day catch phrase "What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas". Snow is an expert destination marketer, top strategic thinker, and no-holds-barred creative.

Snow's mind is frighteningly sharp. No kidding. It's scary. The guy knows everything. Do you know the torque of rocket fuel? Randy probably does. Not only does he have the inhuman ability to store knowledge like a squirrel preparing for winter, he has an uncanny ability to mine the information to produce remarkably insightful creative strategies. Thanks to Randy's big brain, R&R consistently produces advertising that wins embarrassingly large amounts of industry awards.

Snow has been pushing the creative envelope for more than two decades, with a client list including the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), Reno Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority, Nevada Commission on Tourism, and premier Las Vegas hotels and casinos including the MGM Grand, Luxor, Excalibur, Circus Circus, and Bally's. His award-winning work has appeared in Communication Arts, Archive, Adweek, and SHOOT Magazines and The Wall Street Journal.

Under Snow's direction, R&R Partners has received honors including finalist positions in The One Show and back-to-back "Best of Show" ADDY awards.

Welcome to the third issue of my Legislative report for 2011. Since things have been kinda quiet from both national and wtate legislative issues, I though I would reflect on our 2011 Nebraska Unicameral’s defeat of the “Happy Meal Bill” introduced earlier this year by Senator Bill Avery.

In January Senator Avery, District 28-Lincoln, introduced legislation that would have made it illegal to include a toy with a children’s meal unless the meal met some strict dietary standards. Commonly called the “Happy Meal Bill,” it brought on significant media attention both locally and nationally. The Nebraska Restaurant Association worked hard to stop the legislation and it was indefinitely postponed or in effect “killed” in the Agriculture Committee by a unanimous vote on February 8, 2011.

Paraphrasing from the Association of National Advertisers:
The bill that would restrict the sale and marketing of certain kids meals with toys unless they meet specific nutrition standards has been killed in the Nebraska Legislature. The Agriculture Committee held a hearing on LB 126 on February 1. According to local industry groups, the committee voted unanimously to “indefinitely postpone” or kill the bill. ANA submitted a letter to the committee. ANA worked closely with our member companies, the Nebraska Retail Federation, the Nebraska Broadcasters Association and the Nebraska Press Association to oppose this legislation. The ANA expects similar proposals to restrict food marketing in other states this year. If you hear about such proposals, please contact ANA Senior Vice President Keith Scarborough in ANA’s Washington, DC office at kscarborough@ana.net or (202) 296-1883.

I am sure, as well, that this is not the last we will hear of this legislation. With child obesity reaching about 14% it is certainly a hot topic. Have an enjoyable October and as always, if you have specific questions or would like me to research an issue that might be interesting to AAF-Omaha please feel free to contact me at: gil@omahapublications.com
